Welcome

Since 1949, Guild Opera Company has been introducing children to the magical world of opera. With the generous support of individual music lovers, as well as funding from corporations, foundations and government sources, over four million students have experienced live professional performance of this important art form that encompasses music, theater, dance and visual arts.

Dear Friend:

Three internationally acclaimed opera stars—Marilyn Horne, Mary Costa and Heinz Blankenburg—will be on hand to help the Guild Opera Company celebrate its 60th anniversary, and you are invited! Please join us on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Wells Fargo Theater of the Autry National Center of the American West to meet these artists whose professional careers were launched by participation in Guild Opera’s productions. (Click here for further details.)

Also featured will be the premiere of “The Treasure of California,” an opera written by Guild Opera’s Artistic Director, Gabriel Reoyo-Pazos. Set in the time of the California Gold Rush, the work is based on Puccini’s “Girl of the Golden West.” There will be two performances, 2:00 and 4:30 p.m., with a reception and silent auction for both audiences to be held at 3:00 p.m. between performances. Tickets are $60.00.

Although “The Treasure of California” is about the gold-miners’ search for riches, the real treasure we’re seeking is financial support for children’s early introduction to the arts and to continue to provide professional opportunities for young singers. With funding for arts programs in the schools currently frozen and in danger of being cut altogether, the future of the arts organizations and the quality of education in the arts are in jeopardy. Your help is urgently needed to make sure that today’s children are not deprived of experiencing the magical world of opera and the beauty of the human voice.

Seating is limited so early reservations are suggested. Reservations and donations can be sent to:

When you reserve, please indicate your preferred performance time and/or your financial support as we celebrate the past with a vision for the future. We hope you will join us in this effort to enrich and make an important difference in the lives of children.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us directly.

Sincerely,

Fran Benedict, Chairman of the Board

Jeanette F. Floyd, President
